Scott qualified with an MSc in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian
in January and is a state registered, chartered physiotherapist.
During his training he specialized in musculoskeletal rehab and
his work placements were mainly in an outpatient and musculoskeletal
setting. He also learned about many other aspects of physiotherapy
such as:- respiratory, neuro, and community. The city of Glasgow
provided Scott with the ultimate learning experience where he shadowed
and learned his profession from some of the top physiotherapists
in the country. In July last year he worked alongside Daniel Morgan
in Bermuda and gained valuable experience in treating elite athletes
who represented the island. During his time in Bermuda Scott treated
athletes from the Bermuda Hoggs football team who compete in the
MLS league in America, and also helped with athletes of the International
cricket team. Following his published dissertation investigating
the effects of cycling on running performance in triathletes, in
2005 Scott worked with the Bermuda triathlon team for the commonwealth
games. He provided the athletes with biomechanical analysis of
their bike position, worked on swimming technique, and formulated
specific training programmes to allow athletes to peak for the
competition. As a result, Tyler Butterfield who was representing
the island came 12th in Manchester.
From an early age, Scott has had a keen interest in the human body and how it functions. He excelled through school in anatomy and physiology. Being a County record holder which stood for 14 years, and competing at National schools level, Scott regularly picked up injuries from swimming and had to undergo surgery in 2000. As a result, physiotherapy formed an integral part of Scott’s life which developed more interest in the profession. In 2005 Scott graduated from Gloucestershire with an honorary degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences and gained a deep understanding of the physiology of elite level sports performance. Along with his recent MSc from Glasgow in physiotherapy, Scott believes that both his undergraduate and post graduate education complement the way in which he approaches patients.
Scott originates from Cornwall, and is a regular keen local surfer.
He also enjoys playing golf at St Enodoc golf club, and regularly
plays in the Saturday competitions (when he is playing well). In
2002, Scott represented St Enodoc and won the Western Morning News
Open at St Mellion, however since then he has been unable to obtain
his previous form, and now mainly plays golf from the rough instead
of the fairway! Scott also enjoys rowing down at Castledore rowing
club in Fowey. In 2008 He was one of four men in Scotland to be
selected for the World Class Start rowing programme which develops
athletes to represent team GB in the Olympics.
